EMDR AND DISSOCIATIVE SYMPTOMS

Learning Objectives

Participants will learn about the current research on neurobiology of dissociative states, the theories that come from that research and how they relate to treatment choices, techniques into the that help stabilize dissociative clients and make it possible for them to process their trauma(s), and how to integrate these techniques into the standard EMDR treatment process in order to maximize a positive treatment outcome.

The Participants will be able to:

  • Explain how and be able to assess, evaluate and determine wether a dissociative state is present.
  • Describe how the Neurobiological Model of Dissociation can be applied to the management and treatment of dissociative states.
  • List and competently use specific interventions that will:
    • Stabilize the client
    • Create safety
    • Help clients stay connected or get reconnected
    • Minimize dissociative symptoms
  • Explain how dissociative states affect an individual's level of functioning.
  • Demonstrates how to integrate stabilizing techniques into the EMDR treatment process, in order to maximize a positivie treatment outcome.
