SENSORIMOTOR
Training for the Treatment of Trauma: Part I

Phase Oriented Treatment of Trauma: EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

THE SENSORIMOTOR PSYCHOTHERAPY INSTITUTE
“TRAINING for the TREATMENT OF TRAUMA: Part I”

Learning Objectives

Participants will learn simple body-oriented interventions for tracking, naming and safely exploring trauma-related somatic activation, creating new competencies and restoring a somatic sense of self. Students will learn effective, accessible interventions for identifying and working with disruptive somatic patterns, disturbed cognitive and emotional processing and the fragmented sense of self experienced by so many traumatized individuals. Techniques are taught within a phase-oriented treatment approach, focusing first on stabilization and symptom reduction.

The Participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate traumatic and somatic aspects of a clients experience from attachment and developmental elements
  • Explain how current neuroscience research and attachment and trauma theory can be applied to Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
  • List and competently use specific body oriented interventions
  • Differentiate between somatic and psychological resources
  • Integrate Sensorimotor Psychotherapy into the participants current orientation and therapeutic approach
